Firefox is hanging with not responding script error messages

more options

While on Facebook, with multiple tabs open (but freshly restarted firefox), Firefox keeps hanging and "not responding", followed by this... I keep getting these extremely frustrating error messages, whether I click CONTINUE or STOP SCRIPT. It's maddening. Slows things down a lot. Really wish Mozilla still offered live chat. With no customer service number to call, live chat is the least they could do. Here are the error messages: chrome://wrc/content/overlay.js:1822 chrome://wrc/content/overlay.js:1874 chrome://wrc/content/overlay.js:1677 chrome://wrc/content/libs/query.js:1752 Please let me know if anyone has any solutions?

If it is the message complaining that the script is taking too long, you can lengthen the time allowed for the script to work. The settings are in about:config.

  • dom.max_chrome_script_run_time = 30
  • dom.max_script_run_time = 20

I just increased each value by 10.

Thank you finitarry! Where does one find "about:config"? Been looking for it, and don't see it.

Nevermind, found it! Hope it works :)

I think I have the same problem even if it's not only Facebook but Google, too, to get Firefox slowed down. For me, it was helpful to turn the Flash plugin off (Shockwave Flash 11.5 r502), but that isn't a suitable solution.

You do not have to use javascript with Google. I use it with javascript blocked (when I am not using Startpage).

Increasing the value didn't help, btw. Still a mess. Contacted Avast and they said it might be the result of their newest program version, and to wait for an update with bug fixes... No idea how long THAT'S gonna take. For now, I'm just using FB in Internet Explorer, which works fine. Just would prefer to keep it in Firefox.

The "wrc" in chrome://wrc/content/overlay.js appears to be generated by Avast's Web Rep Control. Someone else with a similar problem posted on the Avast forum here - https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=108514.0 - (that link tells you how to disable WRC) but has not received an answer. You may want to register and post a question on the Avast forum here - https://forum.avast.com/

Firefox has a somewhat similar built-in function for malware and phishing sites

You have the following old versions of Java Console that were not removed when you updated Java. Java's installer does not always remove those old Console files which you do not need. You can also remove the current version if you do not do Java design/development work, though the new Console will be installed each time that you update Java.

  • Old - Java Console 6.0.33 {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0033-ABCDEFFEDCBA}
  • Old - Java Console 6.0.35 {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0035-ABCDEFFEDCBA}
  • Current - Java Console 6.0.37 {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0037-ABCDEFFEDCBA}

You need to check your Plugins and update as needed.

  1. Check your Plugins - https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/
  2. Shockwave Flash 11.4 r402
  3. Adobe Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in, version 11.5.8.612 (not the same as Adobe Flashplayer/Shockwave Flash/Flash)
