Firefox 17 is locked; can't update to 17.1 and cannot throw out locked 17
I can download v. 17.1 but not install it.
When I try to move 17.1 into my Applications folder, it does not work. If I try:
-to REPLACE the old version, I get this error: "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have permission to access some of the items." (Note: I am the ONLY user of my machine; there is no admin.)
- to KEEP both 17 & 17.1, I get error code 0
When I try to move the old v. 17 to the trash, it will not let me. It is locked.
Trying to figure out how to UNLOCK (and throw out) the apparently corrupt v. 17, Apple help advises me to contact the software provider.
I have a Macbook Pro, running 10.7.5
Any help greatly appreciated!

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
- Firefox 17.0.1: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
- Trash the current Firefox application (e.g. open the Applications folder in the Finder and drag the Firefox application to the Trash) to do a clean (re-)install
- Install the new version that you have downloaded

Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.
Hi,
Thanks for answering. But the problem is I CAN'T trash the current version, as I wrote above.
The old version is corrupt and locked. I cannot unlock it--thus cannot drag it to trash.
