When I double click my icon on the desktop nothing happens, I mean nothing, but if I right click and then click open it will open my web browser. I'm using FF 18 recently updated from FF17, and I did have some slowness until I reset firefox, but that seems to have taken care of the slowness.

Hello,

Have you tried uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling it?

Thanks!

I've been there and done that, but thanks for the advice. I would also like to add that I'm pretty sure it was some type of malware or remnants of malware, but thank you for the help anyways.

For help with malware please see the following:

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Thanks feer56, but the biggest problem I has was trying to run malwarebytes. I could download it but it wasn't installing right, as a matter of fact I tried it a few times, and I tried TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility a few times too. I tried just about everything, but for whatever reason the stuff wouldn't install right.

Yes cor-el sometimes that is the problem but believe me it wasn't for me I even went as far as uninstalling my paid virus software, but than it wouldn't install right. Like I said earlier it was something or the remnants of something. I will add that I paid microsoft to fix my problem not that I wanted to, but I was sick of trying all of this myself and beating my head against the wall.

Thank you all for your advice though, I appreciate it.

Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps to install and run AV scanners.

I needed that advice 3 days ago cor-el, but thanks again I will keep that in mind if there ever is a next time. I have heard of that before but after awhile of knocking my head against the wall I got a little frustrated, and should have probably just walked away for a day, but I didn't.

) Thanks again for the advice
