System is not responsive. Deleting emails causes a graying out of the whole screen. Sometimes it comes back to non-gray, but it is still not responsive. Cannot delete emails, or it does so very slowly--like minutes later. I have recently been deleting emails holding down the shift key so I can delete many emails at once. Might this have caused a problem? Even attempting to X out of Thunderbird causes the same message of "Inbox - Mozilla (Not responding)" to appear in the upper left. What has happened?

I have totally logged off and restarted. I have switched to safe mode (per instructions) and then completely logged off to make sure that I didn't get stuck in safe mode.

I still have the non-responsiveness.

Thank you for your help
