Firefox said it was updating when I turned it on this AM. All my tabs were gone when it started. I checked tools, options and it is still set for "show my windows and tabs from the last time". I open other tabs and shut down and when I start up the tabs are gone. I cannot get it to open with the tabs from the previous session. In history "restore previous session" is greyed out.

Firefox 29 is at Beta until next week when 29 gets released officially. Just making sure you were aware of that.

I see that user.js is active on Firefox

The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.

You can delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release. You can get to the profile folder below:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory > Show Folder

or

  • Go to about:support and click Show Folder next to Profile Directory.

Are you on the beta update channel?

  • Help > About

If you want to switch to the release update channel then you can download and install the full Firefox 28 release version. Otherwise you stay on the beta update channel and keep receiving updates twice a week.
