When I attempt to load this URL: http://michigan.aaa.com/home.jsp?zip=48134 Firefox switches to this URL: http://autoclubsouth.aaa.com/?zip=32922&devicecd=PC. Even when I type in the entire michigan.aaa string I still get switched. How do I overcome this?

Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

The AAA site does geolocation, so if you are connecting through an IP address that can be traced to SoCal, this may continue to happen.

In my case, if I try http://www.aaa.com/ the site immediately redirects to http://www.aaa.com/scripts/WebObjects.dll/ZipCode.woa/wa/route which come back and sets a cookie named zipcode that contains my zip code. So from there it's preordained that I'm going to end up on the site associated with that zip code.

An example of a service for doing this is: http://freegeoip.net/ (unless you have disabled JavaScript, it will refresh with this information immediately)
