Using the search bar, but selecting other then default, should not change the default engine. Please describe in detail what you are doing.

I didn't say the default engine is changed.

When I choose another engine (ctrl/cmd+down), that's set for that window for as long as I change it back. And I'd like it to reset back to default.

In detail what I'm doing: - I search for a place in Maps. - I open a new tab and try to Google how to drive a car. - Google Maps shows me a random driving school in somewhere. - That's because I was searching in Google Maps... - You got the point.

This can help, Context Search {web link} Expands the context menu's 'Search for' item into a list of installed search engines, allowing you to choose the engine you want to use for each search.

Mark what you want to search for on the web page, then right click.

I guess that's a nice add-on, but really has nothing to do with this problem.

So a conclusion is that at the moment there is no way to get it work how I'd like. And as everything gets more mouse oriented and OneOffButtons work just fine when clicked, there may never be a solution...

Hi valtmat, keyboard-oriented users can select a "one-off" button using the Tab key, then press Enter to "click" it. (First screen shot attached)

To maximize efficiency, you can move your most commonly used one-off buttons to the beginning and remove the ones you never use. These are set on the Options page, Search panel, in the large box. (Second screen shot attached)

Note that you can also use the Tab key to select the search engine. That might be easier as it is one button. You can also reorder the list and remove unused search engine like posted above.
