On a new (2/12/16) ASUS laptop, from the time I installed Flash it crashes every time a video or ad or game is played. I've followed all of the steps Firefox recommends with no change. I've even removed Flash and then reinstalled with no change.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (3-bar Menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: 3-bar Menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.

Do the crashes still occur with all plugins disabled?

You can check for issues caused by plugins.

  • set plugins to "Ask to Activate" on the about:addons page (3-bar Menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Plugins)
  • plugins are not affected by Firefox Safe Mode

I've accomplished all of the steps you suggest but Flash still crashes each time I start a game or a video ad starts. I've even filled out Adobe's bug report but from the comments I found there it seems Adobe doesn't really answer questions or acknowledge posters. Any other steps I can try?

This problem has been going on for months. I now have to use that crappy Google Chrome if I want to watch anything on Hulu. This did not used to be a problem. Firefox used to be the only browser that I needed to use. But with this Adobe crashing problem there is less and less that I can use it for. Please, please, please, fix the problem with Adobe Flash crashing or freezing everything. Firefox did not used to have this problem, so I know that it does not have to have this problem. So please fix it before I have to give up on you people.

This is not a cure, but should let the web page load without crashing.

Flash block {web link} Never be annoyed by a Flash animation again! Blocks Flash so it won't get in your way, but if you want to see it, just click on it

With Flash block I am still not able to watch most video, and it prohibits a lot of audio too. Stopping the annoying advertisements is good, but not being able to use the browser for stuff that I used to be able to use it for is not good. I just want it to work as well as it did a year ago....I do not think that is an unreasonable desire on my part. (As it is now, if Google Chrome was to add a searchbox - and why a google-provided browser does not have a search box is very puzzling - I would switch to it and forget all about the increasingly non-functional Firefox. This Adobe Flash problem has been going on for months, with no indication that anyone at Mozilla cares that their premier product is increasingly useless.)

With Flash Block, the clip will not play until you click the player.

I've found that Firefox is the only browser that has this problem this severely. Sadly, I have to use Edge to play the games on PCH. The games play pretty well on Edge but it is a HUGE memory hog. I'd really love it if someone from Mozilla would just answer the simple question of when we can expect, if ever, Firefox to have these stupid issues fixed. As it stands, we seem to be having a little conversation between ourselves with no real way to fix anything.

I appreciate the suggestion by FredMcD but the problem is that games and videos won't play once I unblock Flash again. I need Flash to work. Or maybe Firefox can find a way to convince web sites to use HTML5 since that's stable, at least.

I've called the big guys to help you. Good luck.

Use this link to check that your plugins are up-to-date. If any are listed as unknown or research, do not worry about them.

I have made sure that the plug-ins are up-to-date several times. I have the latest version of Flash, and the latest version of Firefox, and crashes still happen. I have no understanding of why this problem has not been fixed. It is as if Adobe, Mozilla, Hulu, Pandora, and the other participants in this mess do not care at all about the quality of their products. This forum is the closest I have found to a way to complain about this problem....one would have thought there would be some way to contact someone with some actual decision-making authority who could provide a definitive answer as to when this problem - which did not used to exist - will be solved.
