I cannot send emails, I am receiving them. Also I believe my account is sending bogus emails using my address book if so how can I stop this.
I am unable to send emails. It just stays in the send box and then a box comes up say that it is unable to send the email. I have tried changing the password to no avail. I am able to receive and send emails through by BT mail (Yahoo) account.
Also, two of my contacts have been in touch to say that they have received bogus emails from my account and yet I have not sent them, luckily they recognised it as bogus as my name was in block capitals. During my issue with the password BT asked me to send emails to myself which I received on my Yahoo account but not on my Thunderbird account.
I am concerned that my Thunderbird account has been hacked and the names in my address book are being contacted illegally which I would like to stop obviously.
Your advice will be most appreciated.

There is no such thing as a 'Thunderbird account'. You've set up an account with an email provider, BT/Yahoo in your case. You told Thunderbird to retrieve/send mail for that account from/to your email provider's server.
And the statement above slightly contradicts with
I am able to receive and send emails through by BT mail (Yahoo) account.
Are you saying you can send and receive via webmail, but you can only send via Thunderbird?
I am unable to send emails.
Considering the above you can neither send nor receive via Thunderbird? Please clarify.

The huge Yahoo security breach with 500 mio stolen password hashes has been all over the news during the last couple of days. You should have received a 'NOTICE OF DATA BREACH' from Yahoo by now with instructions.
