How do I restore a tile I accidentally removed from a new tab?

I was trying to visit one of my most frequently visited sites by clicking on the tile in the new tab, and I accidentally clicked the X to remove the tile. Now I can't figure out how to restore it.

The help page 'Customize the New Tab page' says "If you accidentally remove a site you can get it back by clicking Undo at the top of the page. For several removed sites click Restore All" but I can't find the Undo or Restore All it refers to. Where do I find these? What else can I do to restore the accidentally removed tile?

If you know what website this is then you can open this page in a tab and drag the tab to a tile on the about:newtab page.

I tried this and couldn't get it to work. It just keeps either reordering the tabs or returning the focus to the already-opened tab without changing any of the tiles.

You will have to make sure that there is still a visit in the history to make a website appear on the new tab page.

Can't you drag any bookmark or history item to a tile to pin this page?

Changes made manually on the about:newtab page are stored in prefs that you can find on the about:config page.

  • browser.newtabpage.pinned stores websites that you have pinned to a tile.
  • browser.newtabpage.blocked stores websites that you have removed by clicking the X button in a tile.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

Opening the history view and dragging from there worked.

Thank you!
