I have attached 2 different websites - Google map and New York Times - where I have issues. FYI: manually disabling extensions, plug-ins, etc. to match Safe Mode settings do not work.

One of the other changes made in Firefox's Safe Mode is to disable Firefox from using hardware acceleration. You can try that in normal mode to see whether that is the issue. This article has the steps:

If that helps, it usually indicates that Firefox is incompatible with your display driver software. Since you are using High Sierra, that may mean that Firefox needs to catch up with your system rather than your needing to update, but it still might be worth checking this article: Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL.

Thank you jscher2000. I finally was able to try your second suggestion and that worked for Google maps by turning off hardware acceleration and changing the WebGL to true (following Firefox instructions on the link you provided). My mac is too old to upgrade to a newer graphics display card, however the driver is current with my OS High Sierra.
