I am talking about personal web site search engine software, specifically Search Engine Studio. The preview search in the sw program works great, but the generated search engine does not work using either the firefox or IE browser. A requirement for this software is activex or java. IE has activex, but the home edition will not load local files. firefox supports neither activex nor java. What else is there?

Firefox version 6.1,windows 10 I have confirmed that PHP 5.6 is installed locally and is working correctly, but I do not know that that is relevant.

I guess what is being said here is that up to date versions of Firefox do not support software that allows installing canned local search software, and no one cares. OK, Thanks.

HI, I guess your going to have to rollback Windows 10 as it is not supported by the software : Windows 2000/2003/XP/Vista/7 http://www.xtreeme.com/search-engine-studio/

It is Supported in supported in IE v11

Thanks for the observation, Pkshadow. I did notice that on the ses website, but what I am really asking is what do Mozilla users use to set up personal web page search engines. Activex and Java are the only packages I know that can do this, regardless of which windows operating system is used, and neither is available of Firefox.

Use a older browser that supports Java and put your self at risk. Move to a another browser that supports java. Use IE 11 which you have in Windows 10.

Most people do not, very rarely do we get asked about it any longer.

I would think that the paid version of this program runs with out it and there should be no need to run Java with SQUL.

You can still activate it in Firefox but better off if is internal use only to use IE: https://java.com/en/download/help/enable_browser.xml

I don't know why you want to run a search engine locally using a plugin or ActiveX control. Is this for a website or for searching on your own system?

This particular software is 8 years old, which is a long time in web years, especially with PHP. Possibly there are compatibility issues.

You might consider a different indexer. I used to use Zoom Search, which ran locally on my computer, then I used an FTP program to upload the index files to our web server. https://www.wrensoft.com/zoom/ (if you have 50 pages or less, it's free).

Thank you for the suggestion JS. I know the SES software is old and unsupported. I also have realized that I really do not need a working local version; One that works on Bluehost for my website with a Firefox browser would be fine. I will try Zoom Search, though I have way more than 50 pages to index. if it works, it may be worth the extra cost.
