Right-Clicking a link to Open in a New Tab

I got used to opening a link in a new tab by right-clicking the link and typing T. Nice and fast, much more convenient than using the mouse to click on the Open in a New Tab choice.

Sometime within the past few months that stopped working. Now to force open a link in a new tab, I have to click on the choice with the mouse. The "T" key doesn't work.

Is there any way to restore that functionality? Believe it or not, for a tiny, picky thing, I really miss it.

Hi,

Please check if this happens in a new profile. If the new profile is okay, you can later copy the needed personal data from the old profile. Firefox stores your personal data and settings in another location (profile folder) separate from its files/folder. A new profile would have the default Firefox settings in Tools (Alt + T) > Options and about:config, and usually would also be empty of Extensions and themes (Appearance) in Tools > Add-ons, and their settings. Also, a new profile would have no previous stored website cache/cookies/data/preferences etc., (Tools > Clear Recent History).

Thanks, Wilfred. I tested it in a new, default profile, and the behavior is still the same in the default program. I've seen this kind of behavior before when a dropdown list has multiple items with the same hot key, but that's not the case here.

What else can I try?

Thanks! Bill

In the new profile, please also check in Safe Mode.

Uninstalling Add-ons

Uninstalling Toolbars

Safe mode disables the installed Extensions, and themes (Appearance) in Tools (Alt + T) > Add-ons. Hardware acceleration is also temporarily disabled - the manual setting is Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Use hardware acceleration when available. Options > Advanced. All these settings/add-ons can also be individually or collectively disabled/enabled/changed in Firefox normal mode to check if an extension, theme or hardware acceleration is causing issues.

Thanks! In Safe Mode it works fine.

The only add-on I have that's mentioned as a problem is Firebug. I've disabled it, but that didn't help. Turning off unused toolbars doesn't help either.

Since the problem goes away in Safwe Mode, what else should I check?

I have found the culprit!

The Add-on Copy as Text uses a right click on selected text with a hot key of T to copy the text. If I disable that, the normal functionality to open a link in a new tab works with right-click-T.

Thanks for helping me troubleshoot this!!
