I follow a newsgroup, The Home Machinist, that has several levels of entries. Next to each entry is an indicator that tells if the entry has been read completely. With IE that indicator would change as soon as I returned from the lower level data. With Firefox it will not change unless I refresh the page. To me it looks like the newsgroup is updating a cookie as I read information but that cookie is not being accessed after a return to a page. If I reenter the page from the higher level or if I refresh the page the cookie is accessed correctly. What can be done to change this behavior. Continually refreshing is very slow as it requires access to the network server.

Hi,

You can try signing out, Clear Now the Cache and Cookies via Tools (Alt + T) > Clear Recent History, and then sign in again and check.

If the problem persists you can also try to Reset Firefox and check.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.
