This is still prevalent and I have had to disable the plugin for shockwave player. Similar was happening with adobe flash player but since the Firefox update it isn't happening as much. Is there a solution to solve this or is it a Adobe issue that they need to fix.? When it hangs or crashes it sometimes takes out downloads. I rolled back to the older dowload box because if I closed the browser it took the downloads out. Downloads don't crash as much with the older download box but with Firefox 20 ( with the new download style) the downloads died quickly with an error message the "file could not be read"

Also, is it okay to enable my add ons now, they were accentuating the problem as well.

Please check if all your plugins are up-to-date. To do this, go to the Mozilla Plugin Check site.

Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions. If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow Update button or a red Update now button, please update these immediately.

To do so, please click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure.

All plugins are up to date but at first it showed adobe reader was out of date so I attempted to download the latest version which froze at about 96% so I aborted the download low and behold when I rechecked my plugins it showed adobe reader was up to dated .........? When I was reloading adobe reader I got a script error message.

I have rolled adobe shockwave player back to an earlier version but this has been an abject failure because today the plugin has updated itself to the latest version so has the version in the my programs area of Windows XP. So I am left with the same hanging/crashing/ freezing problem annoyingly taken out my downloads.

It is possible that anti-virus software is corrupting downloaded files or is otherwise interfering with downloading files.

Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.

This has to be an Adobe problem because the same thing has been happening in Chrome, although in the last few days it seems to have gotten a little better.

I have tried to update mine to no avail, as well. Quite frequent freezing& some crashing. Even have reset FF. Here are my five most recent crashes ( which initial retrieving process generated a Bugzilla request spontaneously):

Hi batib00ts

Only crash report with "bp-" prefix are submitted.

The only crash report that you posted with a "bp-" prefix shows a problem with the Flash plugin.

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:

  • disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

I figured out the solution to two problems a couple months ago. One is directly related to Firefox processing speed and one is related to Adobe Shockwave, so this is SUPER IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO KNOW! You will need to work in the Chrome browser to fix these problems, so if you don't have it, download the software. Once Firefox is working properly, Chrome can either be kept it for future use or deleted, I have found it helpful to have both browsers available.

Open your Chrome browser and type “about:plugins” (without quotation marks) into the address bar. Click on “Details” at the upper-right corner of the page and a list of your plugins will show with details.

FOR EXCESSIVE SHOCKWAVE CRASHING Find the "Adobe Flash Player" (2 files) Shockwave Flash 11.7 r700 - The problem is both of these files are enabled and invalidate each other - Find the file that with the "Location" name C:\Program Files(x86)\Google\ Chrome\Application\28.0.1500.72\PepperFlash\pepflashplayer.dll - simply click the corresponding "Disable" button. Once you click it, it will turn to "Enable". This solves the excessive Shockwave crashing - not all crashing because Shockwave becomes overwhelmed from time to time depending on the amount of graphics Shockwave is processing on your computer, but there will be a notable decrease.

FOR EXCESSIVELY SLOW FIREFOX BROWSER FUNCTION If you are experiencing terribly slow and disabling service in Firefox, especially if trying to access gaming pages, find the “Java(TM) (2 files)”: Next Generation Java Plug-in 10.25.2 for Mozilla browsers. Find the Java Deployment Toolkit file and click the corresponding "Disable" button. Once you click it, it will turn to "Enable". Now open your Firefox browser and the processing speed should now be returned to normal including all game playing. I still find occasional script running errors, but that seems to be decreasing as well. Hopefully, future Firefox updates will address these problems.

Hope this solves your problems, too. If this works for you, please share!

Hi ezio.lucenti, I'm sorry your post at the end of this long thread hasn't been answered. What operating system do you run?

This is some standard guidance that addresses the most common issues with Flash on Windows. I'm sure you've seen some of it before, but just in case:

(1) Make sure all recorders/downloaders that interact with Flash media are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them.

(2) Disable hardware graphics acceleration in Firefox and in Flash

(A) In Firefox, un-check the box here and restart:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General > "Use hardware acceleration when available"

(B) In Flash, see this support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues

(3) Disable protected mode (Windows Vista/7/8)

See this support article from Adobe under the heading "Last Resort": Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?

Please note that from time to time, there are problems with specific sites, e.g., YouTube, related to specific add-ons, e.g., AdBlock Plus. So if you can narrow down the problem, then hopefully someone can provide a more specific solution.

I too am having that problem with Firefox 23.0.1 and the upgraded 24.0, I even tried the upgraded shockwave, what I did to fix it (Seems it happened after my wife used the computer yesterday when I was asleep) is a system restore, most systems you will need to (assuming you are on a PC) restart, keep press "F8" till a prompt pops up, then start up in "safe mode" go to the "start menu" then "accessories" then "system tools" then "system restore" then select a restore point before the problem occurred... I happened to know when my problem (roughly) started, so I restored back 1 week ago (the occurrence was only 2 days ago). Sometimes I have a problem so severe but can be fixed by system restore that I restore 1 or 2 months prior, but that is rare... in any case, you will have to re upgrade all your virus software and anything else... I'd leave the Firefox and the Shockwave alone though...

Edit: I would also like to note that indeed the problem is Shockwave, not Mozilla. I noticed after I restored my system that the 12.0.4 is now gone and the 12.0.2 is still there... this seems to be a common problem with Mozilla, seems sometimes it will allow 2 instances and that is what screws up the program... if you want to upgrade to the newest shockwave, I suggest figuring out how to uninstall the 12.0.2 first... This happens with Social Fixer for Facebook every once in a while too... so you don't need to download Chrome if you don't want to, and just system restore before the 12.0.4 update...
