How do you set the cursor to the search bar and not the address bar in new tab

Yes, it's a logical request if you primarily open new tabs to search. Currently, there's no way to do this using any built-in setting. The author of the Custom New Tab extension has said he is working on adding this feature, but it doesn't seem to be ready yet.
