When I start Firefox it normally goes right to my Google page, however recently when I start Firefox I get a message stating that Google.com is an untrusted site. I receive this message for all search engines, Google, Bing, Yahoo etc. How can I fix this problem?

You run Kaspersky, correct? If you use the SSL Scan feature, Firefox needs to be set up to trust the fake certificate Kaspersky presents in order to decrypt your secure connections. If you used the Refresh feature during the last update -- for example, Firefox says it is performing poorly and offers to restore some default settings -- then you need to do the Kaspersky/Firefox setup again.

Check the Date, Time, and Time Zone setting in WinXP - lower-right corner of the desktop in the System Tray.

BTW, you should update to Firefox 38.0.1.

Time and date are correct and I have updated to Firefox 38.0.1 but the problem still exists.

Open this chrome URI by pasting or typing this URI in the location/address bar to open the "Add Security Exception" window and check the certificate:

  • chrome://pippki/content/exceptionDialog.xul

In the location field type/paste the URL of the website

  • retrieve the certificate via the "Get certificate" button
  • click the "View..." button to inspect the certificate in the Certificate Viewer

Check who is the issuer of the certificate. You can inspect more details like the certificate chain in Details tab of the Certificate Viewer.

This was a Kaspersky caused problem. I have contacted Kaspersky and downloaded the appropriate patch. Problem is now solved. Thanks to all for the input.
