We are having problems compacting inboxes on one of our mail accounts.

We have run the compacting function but Thunderbird is still warning us that it cannot receive mail because the inboxes are full.

When trying to compact Thunderbird displays a message saying it cannot compact as the disk is full.

When trying to archive it says it cannot archive as there is no space to download messages.

Are there any ways to change the settings to fix this problem as we are stuck.

We are running the latest 38.5.1 install on a XP PC

Right click on your inbox, pick properties. What is the size?

Hello and thank you for the reply,

On right clicking, it says there is 2.2 GB of mail in the main inbox.

This is after repeated compacting attempts and archiving the mail into other folders to try and get Thunderbird to download from the server.

We have to regularly compact the inbox which takes long periods of time - is there a way to have it automatically do this?

Please post a screen shot of both of these messages and attach it to this topic. See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-create-screenshot-my-problem

Also, how much space is the current archive folder taking?

First, how many seconds, or minutes, is the compact time? Is this for the entire account, or just one folder?

Hi

We have set up multiple archive folders and these range from 1.7 to 12gb in size.

Thunderbrird has started working again now as we have moved mail out of the inbox into other folders but it regularly gets stuck like this. I can't therefore send you a screenshot of the error messages just now.

Compacting itself does not take more than 30 minutes but Thunderbird is unable to compact sometimes and so we have to manually move emails to separate folders to clear it.

Is there anything we can adjust in the settings to try and help?
