Bug using Firefox 44.0.2: back button's right-click tab history doesn't work if cookies are denied, but the COMPLETE history is saved anyway. How to fix?

1. Specifically starting in a clean tab. 2. Denying cookies to a specific domain. (e.g. google.com) 3. Opening that denied cookie domain in that tab then opened a link to another part of that site. (e.g. after blocking google cookies, opened google search site then searched for x) 4. Back button is now active and can be left-clicked to go backwards, but cannot be right-clicked to bring up the tab's history as should be the case! 5. This continues to be the case until cookies are re-allowed on the site again and ONLY UNTIL then another link to the same domain is opened within that tab. (Also happens with multiple domain combinations as long as the cookies are denied and allowed in the same way, see below.) 6. The back button tab history then reappears with right-click, with the full tab history present, including the history that was previously unable to be seen while the cookies were denied, so even though it seems to not exist, it's in fact still saving it!

-If at any point the cookies are allowed for the site that is then opened within the tab (whether it's the site started on or not), the complete tab history is revealed. If at any point the cookies are denied for the site opened within the tab, the tab history from that point forward is obscured, EXCEPT FOR THE HISTORY THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN REVEALED BEFORE DENYING COOKIES (not necessarily right-clicked and literally seen), then if every site browsed in that tab from that point forward has cookies denied, then the tab will have the same tab history of whatever the tab history was before the cookies were denied. Whenever the cookies are allowed for another site that is then gone into, again the full tab history reappears. Mainly the history of the denied cookie sites gets added to whatever had been the tab history while browsing the sites that were cookie-denied. -Seems to also affect the addon Session Manager's ability to save tabs correctly, e.g. when searching Google in a tab and upon browser crash it doesn't save the google search, it just saves an empty tab (no title or address) with just the google favicon and has no tab history when loaded. -Never happened before using many instances of Firefox and all the same addons. -Only happening on one Firefox profile, not others that are the using the same Firefox installation on the same User profile of the same operating system, so I'm pretty sure it's not all of Firefox 44.0.2, but it may be a bug that only occurs in it or something since it just started happening. It could have also been present from the last few updates, but I don't think before (or much before) the Firefox 44 update. -Tried restarting, disabling addons, nothing works, didn't install anything new (besides FF updates), etc.

Anyone heard of this before or know how to fix easily to always see the tab history regardless of cookies?

Just to be sure that this isn't a problem with an extension you can try Firefox Safe Mode.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (3-bar Menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: 3-bar Menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Thanks cor-el, but a no-go...

Forgot to mention/didn't realize until now: -Safe mode doesn't fix it. -This problem is also with the forward button in both modes, too. -After trying to figure it out in safe mode then trying non-safe mode again: It seems the problem doesn't need another link (to any site with cookies allowed) to be clicked in to update the tab history (after cookies are re-allowed), but still needs TWO right-clicks on the back/forward button for some reason (i.e. still needs one right-click before the second right-click shows the tab history). I thought I had already made sure to check the clicking possibilities but maybe I hadn't right-clicked twice after re-allowing cookies or maybe something in safe mode changed this for both modes, I don't know... -If a site with cookies allowed is gone into, not only does the tab history work again, but the name is correctly highlighted in tab history; however, when going back into sites with cookies denied, not only (as previously mentioned) does the history show the same as the last time a site was gone in where cookies were allowed, but the WRONG NAME is highlighted, namely that same one that had previously been CORRECTLY highlighted. This goes on (whether browsing new sites or using the forward or back buttons) until another site is gone into that has cookies allowed or cookies are re-allowed in the currently opened, cookies denied site. -If, say, going into two sites within same tab and both cookies are denied, allowing the first site's cookies doesn't bring up the whole tab history or just the history for that site unless it is the last one opened up, i.e. currently open. In other words, the tab history only gets shown when the currently open site has it's cookies allowed, not any previous sites that were denied (thus causing the history to not be shown) and are now allowed. -Both modes: I checked left-click and hold dropdown tab history menu for non-safe mode -- as I forgot to check this originally -- and it also doesn't work with cookies denied (again: besides any history that was already shown before cookies denied) and then automatically updates (at least now) and shows tab history as soon as cookies are allowed.

Safe Mode: -I tried safe mode and it seems to only happen on google and not on other sites that it was happening on before safe mode. -Erased google cookies, still happens. -As mentioned above, when allowing cookies, seems to update it now automatically without having to open another google link (or any link w/cookies allowed) inside the tab. So it then shows the tab history; however, it takes EXACTLY two right-clicks, never one. The first one never works, which is strange.

Non-Safe Mode: -Checked again and it is AGAIN happening on ALL SITES (not just google) when I change the cookies policies! -Tried "Options>Privacy>Accept cookies from sites" checked and unchecked in combination with various ff addon "cookie controller" options of allowing and denying, and nothing about the problem changes.

Safe Mode (2nd time): -Checked again: AGAIN, only happens with google and none others I can find.

Non-Safe Mode (2nd time): -Checked again: AGAIN, happens with ALL sites!
