bookmarks folder
I need to delete ALL bookmark from the toolbar. I selected all (control A) and DELETE ALL. All bookmarks temporarily disappear as deleted, then moments later they all reappear. I have attempted to delete all bookmarks many times without success. The list (long, over 770 bookmarks) has many double and triple bookmarks. Is there a folder in my PC where I can remove ALL files? Please advise. Thank you

Yes there is. It is in the bookmarks library and called Bookmarks Toolbar you may delete the excess bookmarks there.
If in any doubt it may be better to move the content to the unsorted bookmarks folder rather than delete it. If you create a bookmark and do not specify where it should go it will be placed in the folder Unsorted Bookmarks possibly you have copied that folder and made it a subfolder of your Bookmarks Toolbar. If you have problems deleting all 700 try in smaller batches maybe 1 or 2 hundred at a time. Also note there are addons that may help with this task. See
- Addon search https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/se.../?q=duplicate%20bookmarks&platform=WINNT (You may be able to refine & improve that search)
- For instance Bookmark Deduplicator 1.3.1.1-signed No Restart by Systemcluster https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/bookmark-deduplicator
Sorry for the late reply. Your solution does not appear to solve my problem. All of the bookmarks, including all of the folders seem to come right back even after deleting them all! Unbelievable.
I need to know which folder in my SSD stores all of the bookmarks and its folders so that I can eliminate [del *.*] them all... The only other option is to remove the app and any recurrence of the Mozilla files around my system, then eventually re-install it all... Please help. Thank you
I am wondering what makes bookmarks reappear. Reasons that come to mind are
- You are using Firefox Sync, and have set that to Sync bookmarks
- The profile or its sub files are locked or read only
- You have third party backup software.
Firefox stores bookmarks in a file places.sqlite . Deleting or preferably renaming that removes current bookmarks, but Firefox recreates the file with any backup .json or html backups it finds. Normally that is helpful recovery.
A very quick proof and none damaging workaround is to create a new Firefox profile. See Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles Using the new profile and not syncing it you should not have any of your old bookmarks.
I know you wish to delete bookmarks, but do you also have bookmarks or History you wish to retain ?
