Hello boggy, many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.

Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu, choose History, and then "Clear Recent History...".
  2. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
  3. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
  4. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
  5. Now click the "Clear Now" button.

Further information can be found in the Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Hi boggy, the McAfee issue appears on the tab bar, not over the page, so you're right that this is something different.

When unwanted contents is injected into numerous different sites, the problem can be caused by an extension. Could you review your extensions list on the Add-ons page, either --

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right. All extensions are optional; none are included with Firefox. If in doubt, disable.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Any difference?

By the way, an update is available for your Adobe Acrobat/Adobe Reader software that will also update your Adobe Acrobat plugin in Firefox. The best way to get it is from inside your Adobe product, use the Help menu "Check for Updates".

If you are using the free Adobe Reader X (10), you might want to switch to the similar Adobe Reader XI (11) series, which is still receiving security updates. You can choose it using this page:

https://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

You usually still need to use the Help menu in product after installation to "Check for Updates" since Adobe doesn't always build a full installer every time it issues a security patch.

Note: While Mozilla's plugin check sites includes the Adobe Acrobat plugins among the ones it checks, it will always push you to the new DC series, which has a very different interface you might not be interested in using (yet).
