Contact list from one email account only
Hey folks, I've been using Thunderbird for years and manage several different email accounts from it. The way the contact list seems to work is once you reply to an email, the address gets added to your contacts, so over the years I've built up thousands of contacts.
I'd like to target the contacts from one account only however and I'm not sure how to go about selecting the contacts who have only emailed a specific address as I don't want to send unsolicited mails to the rest.
If anyone has any idea how to go about this, I'd appreciate any feedback :)

Try this: create a new address book named e.g. 'Crawled from account X Inbox", then right-click the Inbox for account X, 'Crawl folder for email addresses', then select 'Fill into an addressbook', check 'From' for the search field, then select the new address book in the drop-down, and check 'Collect addresses even if present...'.
After the addresses have been added to the new address book, open it and remove or add any contacts. To send a message to the contacts, press F9 in the Write window and select the address book at the top of the Contacts sidebar, then select the contacts and click an 'Add to...' button. You can also create mailing lists if sending to large numbers, or use the Mail Merge add-on for personalized addressing.
Address books or mailing lists can be exported to csv files if desired from Tools/Export in Address Book.

I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to accomplish here, but if you want to collect the addresses of anyone who has sent mail to one of your accounts, and add them to a mailing list or separate address book, use the EmailAddressCrawler add-on and apply it to the Inbox of the account.
If you intend to 'target' contacts by using the address autocomplete function, and wish to only see suggestions from a specific address book, instead of all address books and collected addresses (ones you've replied to), this is possible with another add-on, MoreFunctionsForAddressBook. However, if you have created an address book with the crawler, you could also display that book in the Contacts Sidebar (F9 in the Write window).
Thanks a lot for the reply. I got the emailaddresscrawler add on and it seems like it may be possible to do what I want, but it doesn't seem to have enough options that I'm entirely sure it can.
I'm basically trying to accomplish having a specific list of email addresses relative to the one account, which can be used for mail shots etc. I don't want addressees from other accounts receiving these same emails.
The reason I'm not sure if the emailaddresscrawler will do what I want, is there doesn't seem to be any option to export addresses to CSV or anything like this, only to email by CC or email by BCC or add to address book.
I tried creating a new list in one of my address books but then when I tried it again and tried to select this list in the options, it didn't appear, so I'm afraid to actually do the crawl incase it adds duplicates to the address book or else emails everyone automatically.
I'm not an expert in these things by any means so a little apprehensive with how they are going to work :)

Thanks a lot for all your help. I've managed to do it. What I was doing wrong was adding a new list to the existing address book, as opposed to going to the menu options and adding an entire new address book. Once I added an entire new address book, it showed up in the options and I was able to add all the contacts from the account :)
The only thing is it ended up adding loads of addresses like you'd get from responses from company support services where they have something like AODAFSIOIFAOFDASFASj$"RIFASLAFSD@amazon.com and the first string would be different for each message in the support ticket sent. Other than that though, I think it worked well :)
You can probably remove the unnecessary entries by using Edit/Find/Search Addresses from the main window.
Yep, and if I don't I guess they won't be pissing anyone off if they are automated once off addresses anyway and hopefully won't break the internet :)
