When I add a new POP account and I use Local Folders, how do I delete the special folder for the new account?

I want all of my E-mail under Local Folders. I don't want a special folder for every E-mail account that I access with POP. I have changed all settings for the newly added account to use Local Folders. I do not remember how to delete that folder outside of Local Folders that was created when I added the new account.

Well I can answer your question, but I have no idea how to undo what you have done fiddling with where things go with regard to folders, so I suppose all I can say is look for funky things happening into the future.

On the toolbar > click the > beside Options > Account settings > server settings > click advanced. select use the inbox for another account and select global inbox in the drop down.

Interesting perspective. Most users view Local Folders as the "special account" and many ask how to get rid of it.

You will be using Local Folders/Global Inbox for your incoming. You need, in each account, to set it to use the Trash, Junk, Sent folders in Local Folders too. Look under "Server Settings" and "Copies & Folders" in Account Settings

I don't use Thunderbird this way myself, but my recollection from having tested it in the past is that in normal use what you call the "special" folders will not be shown. (I'd had a momentary sense of panic as my accounts had vanished, and I am accustomed to right-clicking on them to get at settings.) If any of these folders is shown, empty it and try right-click for an option to delete it.

You don't have any problems choosing the right "from:" address when writing or replying to messages?

Zenos does not understand my question. As I said, I have already removed the settings that use the unwanted folders. There is no option to delete the folders when doing a right click. I hope someone who knows how to do what I am asking will reply.

How about you use the correct terminology. Local Folders in Thunderbird is a special account and is not removable. If you are talking about something else then describe it is terms that mean something.

Oh. You're one of those who don't bother thanking those who try to help you.

Here is what my Thunderbird looks like after adding two accounts to use POP. No "special" (your terminology) folders to be seen.

Again, check that unwanted folders are empty.

I have to say I don't know how it works with the Trash/Deleted/Bin folder, because it has automatically defaulted to the relevant folder under Local Folders without offering me any settings.

I have been using Thunderbird and this E-mail provider for many years. I deleted the POP account and then created it again to see if doing that would resolve an unrelated problem. (It did not.) The "fiddling" I have done is to change the settings for this POP account back to exactly what they were before I deleted the account. The reason for my question on this forum is that there was one additional setting that had to be changed and I could not remember where it was located.

I do not have on my screen. I get to Account Settings by clicking on "Tools" on the Menu bar, then clicking "Account Settings". From there I was able to find the option you described which had to be changed.

I also found that it is necessary to shut down Thunderbird and then restart it before the unwanted folders will go away.

we put that hamburger menu on every install, I assume if you know enough to remove it you know enough to find other locations for account settings.

BTW. you should ONLY change the advanced setting as that sets a pop account to use global inbox. All the other stuff is as I said before likely to cause trouble because it is not meant to be changed from it's default in this config scenario.

So are we going to be privy to the problem that was not fixed by another ISP support person deleting a perfectly good email account in Thunderbird.

I found that when selecting the Global Inbox option in a new clean profile with POP accounts that all the other folders followed suit automatically. So, it should not be necessary to set each Sent/Junk/Trash folder by hand; these will be set to Local Folders for you.

As commented on by the OP, the changes do not fully appear until Thunderbird is re-started.

Given that it was stated "…I have changed all settings for the newly added account to use Local Folders…" I took it that the OP had managed to find the Global Inbox setting for himself.

"All settings" never means all settings. ;-)
