Unable to send email
I have recently added a new email address to Thunderbird (as I was getting tons of spam emails.. It takes the form xxxxxx.xxxxx@email.com this is to replace an address which was xxxxxx-xxxxx@email.com. (that is I substituted a - for a .)
However whilst the old address with the - in it works ok on both sending and received the new email address will not allow me to send . Thunderbird displays the following message;- "An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded:- Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable Failure sending mail. Try again later.
Please check the message recipient "zzzzz@hotmail.com" and try again."
This occurs whatever address I send to. If I go into the website and use either email address then it works fine both sending and receiving. I have checked, double checked and triple checked all the settings in the new against the old and are the same (except the emails addresses). Anyone any ideas? Thanks Clive

Please try this: Confirm each of the mail accounts is using it's own outgoing server.
How many outgoing servers are listed in 'Outgoing Server (SMTP) ?
You should have two. One for each email address/mail account.
Although the server details will be the same, the username and password will be different.
You can make it easier to identify which is which by editing the 'Description' field. Then make sure each account is using it's own outgoing server. Notice how the 'Description' info is now displayed helping you to be sure you have the correct outgoing server. See images as example.

Comparing it with the other email address it is the same except for the email address.
that is a serer error. so we are left with only a couple of options. 1. The settings a wrong. 2. Your anti virus or other software is messing with the connection. 3. The server is actually having issues.
Wat is the domain you are sending from and the domain registrar if it is your own domain?
Hi. Thanks for you help. I have previously tried disabling my anti-virus and fire wall (I use Zone Alarm firewall and Anti-virus) and tried it with same results. Its not my own domain but one I got from www.mail.com. The emails are similar to fred-bloggs@email.com (the old one). and fred.blogs@email.com (the new one). Hope this helps Clive

Hi Thanks for your help but after checking double checking and triple checking everything, I took the step of deleting both emails from my Thunderbird.
I then added the new email account (i.e. the one that wasn't working sending mail) and lo and behold it now works fine.
I then added the old email account (that is the one that was working), and I find that this one now has the fault i.e, unable to send emails.
Therefore I think it may be because the only difference between the two accounts was a "-" and a "." then this was the problem.
I did check very carefully on the stmp settings that these where correct for each email and there where.
Thanks for everyones help.
At least now I can send and receive on the new one. The old one I can keep for a bit while ( while I swop all my other accounts, websites logins etc so that I havn't missed any). Then I will just delete my old account with mail.com.
once again thanks to you for helping out hope this solves the problem for anyone else. Clive
