I should have said security master password. Why should firefox create one and not tell me or ask permission. Peter
Hello, sorry for the inconvenience. In regards to your issue, you may refer this topic for help on resetting your password. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-your-master-password-if-you-forgot-it
After this you can delete/remove the master password by unchecking it via: "about:preferences#security"
Just simply uncheck Use a Master Password. And insert the password to confirm.
You can also try to rename/remove the secmode.db file in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed.
You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
- Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Directory:
Windows: Show Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox

That did not work as firefox created a new file when opening.

That means I loose all of my passwords have to start again and update passwords on every web site. More importantly why did firefox create a master password and will it happen again and again and again.....
Do you also get this master password prompt when you access the passwords in the Password Manager?
- Options/Preferences -> Security: Logins: "Saved Logins" -> "Show Passwords"

Yes it asks for my password click cancel it shows a page of saved logins which is blank. Perhaps what ever created (Firefox) the new password means that all of the old passwords have gone, Thanks for responding and helping a grumpy old man. Peter
Does the saved profile using mozbackup have the password?
