Hello there, let's try a refresh!

The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

That worked! you should auto refresh as part of the upgrade! bad developer! and my new tab dont allow local files still this is annoying by time i get to my page manually i forget what i needed it for you need to allow my own html local files as homepage and also new tabs and have this as an option as i dont care about security issues i live alone so it wont get hijacked!

There have been more "fixes" posted regarding the memory problem with Quantum than there are users in the world and none of them work. When will Quantum be fixed so people can actually use it?

I had read someplace that Quantum had solved the issue of memory leaks, but apparently not, and version 58 seems to have made the problem worse rather than better. Although a refresh might work, it appears to be a temporary fix as the problem seems to reoccur. I have had some luck reducing memory usage with Wise Memory Optimizer to recover RAM and using the one-tab add-on instead of keeping many tabs open keeps memory usage down.

So yeah I guess solution is to stick to a single tab, thus making the browser pretty much useless for multitasking.... hope they get fixed this soon

I did some tweaking and now the memory does not seem to leak as much as before. In Options, I unchecked Use recommended performance settings and unchecked Use hardware acceleration when available, and adjusted the content process limit to 2 (I've only got 2.9GB usable RAM. I use the program sandboxed (www.sandboxie.com), and had to change the sandbox settings in about:config to level 2 security.sandbox.content.level;2

I also refreshed the browser a couple of times and maybe that helped. I am using a number of tabs, and they load much faster than before.

The main problem I have right now is I get the popup bar that says "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional" for which I am trying to find a fox that works - this fix does not work every time: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-bookmarks-and-history-will-not-be-functional?redirectlocale=en-US&as=u&redirectslug=The+bookmarks+and+history+system+will+not+be+functional&utm_source=inproduct

I wouldn't expect the settings above to work for everyone, but I think those are the ones to tweak.
