Just built a new PC and every other site just appears in these symbols (see photo). No idea, what is going on, in doing some research I came across that Kaspersky may cause some problems like that, but I cannot find anything on it.

I think the Kaspersky problem has been fixed for a while now since they update frequently.

Another "man in the middle" security filter identified as causing this, at least at one time, was Lavasoft Web Companion. You can check your Control Panel, Uninstall a Program, for that one.

You can check the issuer of the certificate on that gibberish page to see whether it yields any insights. Either:

  • right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Certificate"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Certificate"
  • click the padlock or "i" icon in the address bar, then the ">" button, then More Information, and finally the "View Certificate" button

In the dialog that opens, the first tab should identify the certificate issuer. Should be "Google Internet Authority G2" as shown in the attached.
