Firefox autofills login entry with old password
I have a secure login that Firefox always wants to auto-fill. Unfortunately, the login it uses has an old password that is no longer valid. I have tried updating the password, but Firefox still uses the old one. I have tried deleting the login entirely from the saved logins list, but Firefox still auto-fills the login for that site with the old information. I have even tried disabling auto form fill, but it still does it. This has led to my being locked out of the account, since the system only allows you one failed login, so it is more than a nuisance. Where is Firefox getting this information from if not from the saved password list? Where else should I look? Any hacks I can use to get rid of this old login?

That's an excellent question. Normally the "paired" filling of user name and password would be limited to the logins list (Preferences page, Privacy & Security, "Saved Logins" button). Unless it keeps coming back, I think we can rule that out.
On some pages, Firefox may retain form auto-fill entries. These typically would appear on a drop-down below the field as you start typing and you can arrow down to them and press Shift+Delete to remove them. Anyway, it sounds as though you have completely turned off that feature (on the Preference page, Privacy & Security, "Firefox will: Use custom settings for history", uncheck the box for "Remember search and form history").
What does that leave... How about an add-on? Do you have any password related extensions? You can view and manage extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
- Command+Shift+a (Windows: Ctrl+Shift+a)
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
- type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return
In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Any extensions Firefox installs for built-in features are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything that could possibly affect logins or forms?

Thank you! I had discounted the possibility of an add-on, because I thought the only relevant one would be LastPass, and I have been having this problem since before installing LP. But this particular website also wants you to install SailPoint, and disabling SP fixed the problem! Now I'll have to dig around and see if there is any way to edit SP's password history...
