Whilst making an online purchase and being redirected to mke payment vie Paypal (my choice), the Paypal page asks my to change my password. Paypal say no need

Whilst making an onlinestore purchase today (not ebay) and then being redirected to make that payment via Paypal (my choice), the now visible Paypal page, asks me to change my password due to a security issue with my account. It potentially having been accessed recently via an unrecognised device or in an unrecognised/unfamilier location.

I immediately called Paypal to confirm that the redirect and change of password request were authentic. They only confirmed that there were no anomilies with my account and no known reason for me to have to change my password. I was then advised by PayPal, to access the store via another browser to attempt to make my purchase, to check if the same redirect etc was also there. I went back on to the business site using Google Chrome and completed the purchase without further problems or issues, using PayPal as before.

Why does my Firefox browser imply that my Paypal account is compromised, when PayPal itself is happy with everything and the same problem does not raise it's head, whilst using a different browser?

Hi, assuming you haven't accessed PayPal from another device or location, try deleting ALL references to PayPal. To do that, open the 3-bar menu > Library > History, then click the Show All History link at the bottom of the list to open the History-library window. Search for PayPal in the Search History field in the top-right corner, then press Enter. Now in the search results, right-click on it, and select Forget About This Site. (Browsing and download history, cookies, cache, active logins, passwords, saved form data, exceptions for cookies, images and pop-ups for that site will be removed). More - Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox

Also make sure that cookies are enabled - Settings for privacy, browsing history and do-not-track

Thanks for the reply, it is appreciated.

If I log directly into PayPal from my PC using Firefox, there are no problems at all, without doing any of what you reccomend. If there were any security issues at all, which is what the Paypal page said that there were, after being redirected there, then surely PayPal themselves would have confirmed that there were concerns over my account, as soon as I spoke to them about it?. Because of that, I can't see it being anything to do with the cache memory, or similar in Firefox, getting tormented by some weird glitch. Going straight to PayPal with Firefox and logging in normally, gives no annomilies whatsoever.

I have to admit, that I was trying to avoid doing eveything that you suggested above, due to it working fine when directly accessing PayPal through Firefox. It would seem easier for me to just purchase online using another browser instead of having to do that. This has only happened since the last update.

Some times Paypal has a specific password login that is different from the PayPal account. I seen this with certain banks that uses a two tier password to access their site through Paypal as well.

I would also suggest clearing all data in your Firefox on PayPal.

Remove History For One Site

Open the History Manager <Control><Shift> H. In the search bar, enter the name of the site. Right-click on one of the listings and select Forget About This Site. This should remove all information, including any passwords / settings.

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.
