A friend has intermittent issue with thunderbird and gmail server. Sometimes she can stay connected for hours but then when sending an email it will error and say cannot connect to gmail server. While at same time not saving the email she just wrote. not is send or drafts. Her phone works fine with gmail. The issue is on two computers and not just in one location as she takes her laptop with her to other locations. She uses imap settings, and it has only started this in last few weeks. We have been forced to setup windows live mail as thunderbird has become unreliable. She prefers thunderbird. She is a school teacher and needs reliable emails. She does not like the web interface of gmail hence thunderbird.
