Lost info in menu windows

more options

Hello

If I open a drop down menu, choose a site and right click it, then click on properties, the window that pops up looks different to the past. It suddenly looks like an ugly Windows App and has no large text field (see screenshot) where I can type my own "comments" about a site as I could before In fact, I seem to have lost all such comments and I had a lot of info about some sites in the previous text fields

Is this a change in Firefox or has something got unconfigured in Firefox?

Thanks

Hi, it may not matter. This is from Help --> About--- > What's New

Removed the description field for bookmarks. Users who have stored descriptions using the field may wish to export these descriptions as html or json files, as they will be removed in a future release.

Hello Well that's just great. Years of work lost by the organization that accuses others of wrongdoings and a new design that looks like a piece of Windows App crap How can we contact Mozilla directly to complain about this?

You can go to the 3 bar Menu --> Help --> Submit Feedback and it will be reviewed by a special team.

If you do not like the looks of it have you yet been to Customize ? Or do you know that you can customize Firefox in 250 million ways and you can start with 10mins of reading. It is called userCHrome (note this has been in Firefox before there was a google and stole the name.)

10mins, make a folder, make a file, put it in the right place and copy and paste........ Some info :

More info and how to and examples plus code

Can ask here for something or can go here :

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

You can submit Feedback to Mozilla here: https://qsurvey.mozilla.com/s3/FirefoxInput/

But that will get you nowhere. The removal of that Description field in Bookmarks Properties was a planned "event" for over a year now. Four Bugs were filed over a few months for the process of removing that field from the window you posted the screenshot of. The actual removal of the data that was entered (and formerly viewable in that removed field) is slated for Firefox 64.

If you want to retrieve that data, just use Export in HTML format thru the Library > Import and Backup menu and save the resulting HTML file. Once saved you can open that file in any web browser to view that data to do what ever you want with that data.

There has been talk of a new extension to be able to store that data

Thanks PkShadow

I've sent a complaint to Mozilla about this It is simply the deletion of data without consent I'll look at customizing the menus with the links you gave me but I'm not a programmer and my immediate problem is simply getting the lost info back

Hello

Do you mean a planned and announced event on Bugzilla??? How many Firefox users are registered on Bugzilla in your opinion? A wild guess would be less than 1%. That would be like Microsoft deleting data and then saying you were warned on the developers hub!!!

On the other hand, I have managed to retrieve the info thanks to you

My take on this is that Mozilla must avoid becoming "geeky" at the client end.

Most users don't know what to do when data just disappears and we don't read Bugzilla (nor even understand it)

Anyway, thanks for your help

How much talk? I've commented on two other support threads about the description being removed. I, like many others, save a lot of site specific info in that description field that was removed. Exporting to an html is fine, but it doesn't make it nearly as easy to find/navigate or edit.

The Bookmarks API that extensions use does not provide access to the Descriptions field.

Someone posted an extension earlier today that lets you store notes for your bookmarks ("Bookmark Notes") and access them from the sidebar, but it stores them separately from your bookmarks and there wasn't yet an import feature so it starts off from scratch. Probably it will get more functionality over time.

Hello all

I still don't get the logic behind all this

The change was on Bugzilla but was there a bug? Not as far as I understand things. Mozilla has simply "downgraded" this tool a bit like Skype 8 is a downgrade from Skype 7 according to 99% of users.

I guess the guys at Bugzilla fix a lot of things and never get much credit from us so now that I've calmed down, I'm not going to curse them.

But Bugzilla is NOT a tool for warning regular users about changes and should not start taking out handy features either.

That is surely NOT their mission

Regard to all and especially "Bugzillas"

Actually, the one I tested (not yet recommended) was "Bookmark Notes"

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/bookmark-notes/

and I posted my brief initial comments on it here:
