I select the setting:

"ask to save logins and passwords for websites" so that I can also select

"Autofill logins and passwords". This works for a session of Firefox, but when I close it and start a new one, it does not retain the selection. Is there another setting somewhere that is undoing it?

Are you using any password add-ons/programs?

Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

Thanks Fred. I still had a TrendMicro security application installed (although I had stopped paying for it). I uninstalled and since then the setting has persisted.

Glad to help. Safe Surfing.
