Thunderbird doesn't save password
Hello,
I have a problem with thunderbird. I have changed the mail password of several mail address, and after I changed the password of the SMTP and IMAP servers on Thunderbird. Before I close the program, if I go on preferences -> security -> saved password, is all ok, they are saved, but after some days the passwords are no longer saved. It happens more and more time.
What can I do?
OS: Windows 10 Thunderbird version: 91.6.0 (32 bit)
Thanks in advance.

If the passwords are no longer displaying then this means you have a program on your computer removing them. There are programs that are designed to 'clean up' temp, session and password files etc.
Do you use Programs like CCleaner, WiseCleaner or even some Anti-Virus programs can also 'clean up' files? If yes, then you need to make your Thunderbird profile folder exempt from scanning.

I checked, but there aren't programs like that or antivirus on the PC.
Also because, before that I changed those password, this problem did not exist, and there are no differents programs than at that time.

You are running Windows 10 OS, so it has a default Anti-Virus and Firewall. It will also have a disk clean up tool - Disk Clean up and Storage Sense. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/free-up-drive-space-in-windows-85529ccb-c365-490d-b548-831022bc9b32
It is also possible you have Anti-Virus scanning files when they get opened. I suggest you do not allow the Anti-Virus to scan Thunderbird profile folder. If you have Anti-Virus scanning everything - suggest you do not set it to perform an automatic fix - set it up to 'Ask what to do', so you can cancel the fix if it involves any Thunderbird file or folder.
preferences -> security -> saved password
Is the 'Saved passwords' completely empty - no mention of any mail accounts at all?
If yes,
Menu app icon > Help > More Troubleshooting Information
Under 'Application Basics' - Profile Folder - click on 'Open Folder'
A new window opens showing you the contents of your profile name folder.
Exit Thunderbird now - this is important.
Delete the following files.
- cert9.db
- key4.db
- pkcs11.txt
Start Thunderbird - new files are created.
Enter Password at prompt. Select the checkbox for password manager to remember password before you click on OK
Hello,
sorry for the delay. I tried to follow your instructions, so I deleted the files, and after I open again thunderbird and I add the passwords, but when I go to saved password all is blank.
re :after I open again thunderbird and I add the passwords, but when I go to saved password all is blank.
You got prompted to enter password as expected, but did you select the checkbox to 'Use Password Manager to remember this password' before you clicked on 'OK'?
Yes I did it. The times before, the password were saved, but after some days they disappeared, this time, also if I select that voice and just after I go on "saved password", there is nothing.
Hi, someone can help me? I don't know what to check anymore...
Check to see if you have files that are set as 'read-only': Menu app icon > Help > More Troubleshooting Information Under 'Application Basics' - Profile Folder - click on 'Open Folder' A new window opens showing you the contents of your profile name folder.
Exit Thunderbird now - this is important.
- cert9.db
- key4.db
- pkcs11.txt
- session.json
For each of the above files - right click on file and select 'Properties' On 'General' tab - Look at the 'Attributes' - is 'Read-only' selected ? if yes, uncheck it, click on 'Apply' and click on 'OK'
Hello,
thanks for you support. I resolved this problem uninstall and install again thunderbird.
I have noticed that some files there weren't anymore after i deleted it for the try that you suggested me 2/14/2022.
