AOL pop ups are popping up all day every time I go to the computer. They say it is not them that it must be my browser. can you help me?

Please tell me how to stop the AOL popups. These popups urge me to make AOL my homepage - which it has been since the beginning of personal computers. Please tell me how to get rid of them. They say it is not them - it must be my browser. This is so annoying. Thanks.

Start Firefox using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?
