Firefox / internet will not connect after avast trial ends - firewall problem?! HELP!

Hi, I had avast on 30 day free trial & didnt sign up when I had to pay for the full version. Since then my internet connection is down - in both firefox & IE. I get a message 'A program or firewall is not compatible with windows vista' on boot up. Then internet will not connect.

I have tried uninstalling avast (and mcaffee) and have switched off the windows firewall - all to no avail! I have checked all other things with the connections - leads etc.

PLEASE HELP! How can I get back on the internet?!

Uninstall that trial program. Once it is gone the firewall that comes with Win7 will take over to provide firewall services.

Thanks but I have removed all trace of avast and still no connection - arraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!
