When I attempt to log on I'm told another copy of Firefox is open yet there is none to be found.
I've already written about this once but then I had to verify my account so I think it was lost. If not- my apologies. Firefox kept hanging so I opened "Help" for options. Ultimately, I decided to to try clearing my "Restore Session" folders to see if this might resolve the issue. I followed the instructions, I thought, exactly. I found the folder where I was told I would, trashed it, and then closed Firefox. But when I attempted to re-open the application I was given an alert window titled "Close Firefox" that said: "A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time". Problem is, there is no other icon, window, etc to be found anywhere in my computer. And the icon on my dashboard reads as closed. The Firefox heading does come up with the alert window- though none of its subheadings do- but the only thing I am able to do is close the alert. I even tried deleting the application and downloading Firefox again. Same result. I hate to go back to Safari as it is very touchy with video and is the reason I got Firefox in the first place. Can you help?

Do you still have a default Firefox profile folder?
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Recovering_a_missing_profile
You can try to use the Firefox Profile Manager to create a new profile.
