When I first loaded Firefox 4, Google Search was working. The next day, yesterday,Firefox began hanging when I tried to go into Google. I tested Google out in IE and it was working. What is the settling alteration to let Google work for me. I like its search capabilities and I like Firefrox more than IE. Maybe its the Bing Bar in the system, not showing in Firefox.

I can't get any search engine to work. It just hangs once it has found a page of hits and when I shut it down and re-start Firefox says "Well this is embarrassing" No it isn't, it is very, very annoying. What good is a browser if you can't search the internet? I bitterly regret upgrading from 3.6 as I now can't find it to return to. I don't like Chrome but I am now forced to use it. I have used Firefox for years and every upgrade has been an improvement until now.

Please email me when you have a version of Firefox that actually works and fixes this bug.

Jim I found that the only way to get Google to work was 'not' to have Google as home page. It works well other than that. My friend Carol has the upgrade and has had no problems but I don't know if she has Google as home page. I agree with you abut 4. I think 3.6 was much better. Maybe they will find something to fix this bug. Google works fine on IE (don't like it) so it's only Firefox 4 and only in some cases. Interesting Judith

Hi Heindorff

Yahoo is my homepage but probably same issue.

However, I found the 3.6.17 download page so uninstalled 4 and everything is back to normal. I am happy again :) I will not go near 4 until I read that they have it working properly.

Jim Another thought occured to me. I have a feeling it has something to do with Windows 7. I'll prove that theory when friend Carol puts Firefox 4 on to her new laptop (with W7). If it hangs with google home page, we know what the problem is. I downloaded the latest 4.0.1 and it still does it. I'm going to try Firefox 6 on the PC User DVD (I"m in Australia) and will let you know. Cheers J

I have had the same problem with google search engines and i found that if i disable the safe browsing plugin from bullguard that will cure the problem

I have exactly the same problem and it is infuriating... although my saved tabs work really quickly, it won't find any results I enter into the google bar and prevents me going any further with the browser and hinders me from shutting it down. How can we get around this?

I just started having the same problem yesterday. Trying to access google.com, maps.google.com or news.google.com hangs with Firefox saying it's connected to google.com. I couldn't start the browser, EVEN IN SAFE MODE, while the home page was Google. So I know this isn't related to extensions and plugins if this happens in safe mode.

I'm puzzled. I see many have the same problem. I'll have to go back to Opera for awhile until this somehow is figured out.
