It used to be easy to backup bookmarks. I see no link to it in the Bookmarks toolbar. How do I backup my bookmarks? I want to transfer them to my mini laptop for travel!

The only change in that regard between Firefox 3.6 and 4.0, is that the Bookmarks menu item Organize Bookmarks was renamed to Show All Bookmarks.

Thanks! That was helpful. Why they renamed something that was so clear to something completely unclear is beyond my brain! Some people should remember that it it "aint broke, don't fix it!"

Whatever "organizing" a user did in Organize Bookmarks wasn't permanent, that "organization" was gone when the Library window was closed. IMO, that menu item was named wrong for the last 3 versions of Firefox, in 4.0 Mozilla fixed their original mistake.

Why is it necessary to rename things so that it's not obvious what the function is? Geeks making things difficult for the fun of it.

I have wasted so much time on firefox 4 I'm a hairsbreadth from moving to another browser. I understand security etc. has to be implemented but why alter the basic tasks? I now have the status info on top of the web page making both unreadable instead of a perfectly good status bar that could be clearly seen.

One suggestion. Instead of backing up your files, export them as HTML. It's very weird, but when you back up, you get a JSON file, or something weird like that and windows can't figure out how to open it. Even Firefox won't import it because it's their stupid name, and THEY don't even recognize it! How about this? I backed up my files as the only option they give you JSON, and then my little mini HP couldn't IMPORT them because Firefox and Windows don't recognize it. It's THEIR file! OMG.... Spending too much time on this, but how can geeks be so stupid? AHHHH Sometimes too much intelligence, interferes with common sense and communication!

Take my advice and choose the export to HTML option. It appears the only way to backup your bookmarks. I add new ones daily, so I like them backed up!

The utility 'MozBackup' - http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/- is an excellent way of backing-up Firefox bookmarks, saved passwords, settings, etc., as well as making a re-installation of your OS (or migration to another computer) a snap. You can read more about MozBackup at http://www.ghacks.net/2011/03/13/mozbackup-updated-backup-firefox/

Hope this is helpful.

I like your suggestion DesertDance, and am going to use the Export HTML option from now on. Thumbs up!
