Firefox on my dad's computer has started complaining that certain SSL websites, eg:

https://online.barnsley-bs.co.uk/

have certificates signed by an untrusted issuer. He was using Firefox 3 so I upgraded him to Firefox 4 in the hope it would refresh the certificate store but it did not fix the problem.

On my own PCs Firefox has no issues with the cert nor does IE on his computer.

I would like to know how to refresh the certificate store in Firefox to ensure his version is up to date.

Also he has some AVG product installed which hooks into firefox. I can't see anything documenting that it interferes with the certificate store but perhaps it does.

The site sends the intermediate COMODO certificates. You can try to remove existing stored COMODO certificates under the AddTrust section in the Certificate Manager. Firefox stores these certificates automatically if you visit a website that sends them.

Stored intermediate certificates show as "Software Security Device" in the "Security Device" column in the Certificate Manager.
