Your problem is caused by the Ask Toolbar which you have installed. There are compatibility issues between Ask and Firefox at the moment.

Please do the following to ensure a clean installation.

  1. Use Internet Explorer to download Firefox 4.0.1 from this link: Download Firefox 4.0.1 and choose "Save" when you see the prompt. Then save it to your desktop. Do not choose "Run".

  2. Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to "Mozilla Firefox" and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (don't checkmark the box).

  3. Then reboot and delete the folder called "Mozilla Firefox" at this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

  4. Finally run the installation file you downloaded to the desktop earlier.

Your bookmarks, customizations etc., are maintained in a different location and will become available to you again once you complete the installation.

Next, click the Firefox button and go to Add-ons, then Extensions. Find the Ask Toolbar in there and click "Remove".

If you would still prefer to use the previous secure version, use this download link instead of the one to v4.0.1: Download Firefox v3.6.17 Otherwise the installation procedure and removal of the Ask Toolbar is the same.

Thank you so much. That was exactly what I needed to know.
