My preferred website, as opening website when I start Firefox (14), has worked just fine for a long time. Suddenly, as of 7 august 2012, a site with Oracle Server Information, pops up when I start firefox. Settings for preferred website(s) has not changed, still shows my preferred site but Oracle keeps popping up. Software update is OK (using Mac's software system). I cannot determine what is wrong. Who can and has a solution ?

Is this in addition to your start/home page(s), an additional tab? Or is it replacing one of your start/home page(s)?

If it's an additional page, does it seem to be associated with any Firefox add-ons? Sometimes when add-ons update they display a tab with information about the update.

Can you open that page otherwise normally, e.g. via a bookmark or the Home button if it is set as the home page?

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).
