I just updated to latest version, now sidebar (bookmarks, downloads) won't widen beyond a certain width, though the main window will. What should I do?

The left right arrow toggle button works only so far going to the right, then the sidebar separates and doesn't expand any further. Any ideas how to get the toggle button to stay connected to both sidebar and main window??

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • Open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

The sidebar can only open to a specific maximum width of about 550px.

  • min-width: 14em; width: 18em; max-width: 36em;

If you could make it much wider previously then you may have an extension that made this possible and this extension may not be working properly.

If you can't open the sidebar that wide then check for problems with the localstore.rdf file.
