The Ad Block Plus stop sign has disappeared

using newest Firefox version-- Ad Block Plus symbol has disappeared. Certain websites I use need me to allow them so I can read their content. I have uninstalled and re-installed Ad Block-- still doesn't work-- even when I disable Ad Block the website still shows it as on.
