Why in version 24 does the search bar search engine not change for the url bar?

more options

I was reading through the help there, and it says that after version 23 when you change the default search engine in the search bar, then it will change the search engine on the URL bar.

This doesn't seem to be the case for the version I have installed, version 24, because it is set for Google and when I type in a search querry in the URL bar it searches Bing instead! I can't seem to figure out how to change this.

HELP!!! I hate bing!!!!

I noticed you have an extension named "keyword.URL Hack!" which may be overriding the built-in behavior and using the keyword.URL setting (Conduit, presumably changed by a Community Toolbar extension at some point).

If you disable "keyword.URL Hack!" does that restore the default behavior?

Well, actually, I put it there. It was one of the suggestions offered by the answers to the other questions.

I just tried disabling it again, it appears to work, but we'll see if it holds. I've been noticing that Bing keeps coming back.

Anyway to prevent bing from coming back? Microsoft seems determined to be my default browser.

You can clear the Conduit setting from keyword.URL (the Conduit search engine is powered by Bing) using the Search Reset extension:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/

If that comes back, it would indicate that a Community Toolbar or other Conduit-linked extension or external program is still active on your computer.
