"Image not loaded in 30 seconds"

I've been meaning to write about this for months, but as an example, when I go to a DetroitNews.com webpage with a photo application/program which loads a series of photos on that page which one can scroll through, more often than not I get this error message displayed in a black horizontal box for EACH of the photos scrolling down the page obstructing the article:

"Image not loaded in 30 seconds (then location of photo)"

It seems to have something to do with cmsing.detnews.com. Not sure what that is. I've tried activating certain add-ons, turning them all off, and nothing seems to remedy this. This only happens in FireFox. I also have a problem loading photo series on the news website MLive.com more often than not.

Can you guys look into this and figure out why these photo pages give me such trouble? My system just drags.

Hello,

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
  2. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
  3. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
  4. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
  5. Now click the Clear now button.

I refuse to do this. I am not going to lose all my log-ins every time I want to go to an "offending" site. You should not have to do that. That's not a solution, it's an admission of an unacceptable browser defect.

Reload the webpage while bypassing the cache using one of the following steps:

  • Hold down the Shift key and click the Reload button with a left click.

OR

  • Press Ctrl + F5 or Ctrl + Shift + R (Windows and Linux)
  • Press Command + Shift + R (Mac)

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

It's not the add-ons or any such thing. In fact, of the many problems I've had with Firefox (and for as many questions as I've asked, I've only actually posted a few of my problems), NEVER have any add-ons, plug-ins or extensions caused me any problem with the browser.

I do want to make that crystal clear, because you wite everyone the same generic responses, which are already in the help section before we even get to the point of asking these questions. ALWAYS, we're pointed to the add-ons. It's almost never the add-ons.

The cmsimg.detnews.com server seems to store images that are retrieved via specific GET data appended to the link (Tools > Page Info > Media).

If such links aren't working the you may have an ad-blocker or other content blocker active.


Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.


Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.

The only thing that I think could mess the loading of this process up is my Windows Firewall. Would that affect it?

When I go to the photo galleries, specifically, they always load properly. It's only when the gallery is embedded within the article that I often get trouble.
