I keep getting dangerous fake requests in Firefox that Norton warns are dangerous. This is an example: http://www1.updateplugins.com/ZR7KBfZ2/detection/?ClickID=228556727&PubID=674

This is just one of many pretending to be from legit. sites.

Sounds like Malware. Try using these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
