My Internet Service Provider is TalkTalk. I use their POP mail service, for which the mail server is mail.talktalk.net, and my email address is ...@talktalk.net. Following the recent much publicised TalkTalk hack I changed my password. The new password works fine and I am able to send/receive messages, but in the Thunderbird Saved Passwords screen the new password is shown against a site & username that I have not used for many years, when my ISP was btinternet. If I delete the saved password then Thunderbird prompts for it when I next use my TalkTalk account, and it is again stored against the wrong site name as before. The "View settings for account" shows all correct details for the TalkTalk account, it's only under Saved Passwords that the old btinternet settings are showing through. I think this is a software error in Thunderbird, not terribly serious since I can still send/receive email. I recall that when I changed ISP I edited the email account in Thunderbird to show the new mail settings, where probably I should instead have created a new account. I am lothe to delete & recreate my email account in Thunderbird as I do not want to risk losing the local copies of all my emails & folders. But Mozilla might want to correct this error some time? All the best - Chas

Not very likely.

I recall that when I changed ISP I edited the email account in Thunderbird to show the new mail settings, where probably I should instead have created a new account.

Indeed. My best guess is that there are still some remnants from the BT account in your profile. May be in the acount name, description of the SMTP server, something in prefs.js.

I am lothe to delete & recreate my email account in Thunderbird

As long as everything works just leave it as it is.

I do not want to risk losing the local copies of all my emails & folders.

Then you should have a backup of your profile regardless. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Thunderbird_:_FAQs_:_Backing_Up_and_Restoring
