Why can't I load the NY Times puzzle using Firefox? It works OK (now) with Chrome

The NY Times articles load, but the puzzle remains blank, even as the "hints and free puzzles" box fills. I am now using Chrome to access the puzzle, but I'd rather be using Firefox.

Good news! The NY Times tech person finally responded to my 5 queries, and they confirm that it is THEIR problem and not mine (ours). I'll just have to keep using Chrome for a while, boring but at least I can get to the puzzles. Thanks to all for your time and energy.

Please post a public link that we can check out.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and remove the cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Clear the cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove the cookies" from websites that cause problems.

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Alas, this does NOT fix the problem. I CAN get to the NYT site, it's just the puzzle that doesn't load, although I can load it easily using Chrome. This has been going on since last Thursday, when I called the Times and was told there was a problem with both Chrome and Firefox. Obviously they've fixed it for Chrome but not for Firefox. My hope was that someone in the Firefox community could get the Times people moving.

The link is nytimes.com You'll get the front page. Then click on "today's puzzle"

Wow, I had trouble finding it. Had to use the browser's search box. On the right one page down, small print.

I tried sever puzzles. they seem to work okay.

Are you using any blocking programs / add-ons?

Disable your protection program as a test.

Hi. I tried that, among other things. It works just fine with Chrome and also with Explorer, such as it is. The good news is that someone from the Times has finally answered my query---had to write from the home page, since the "comments" button on the puzzle page also doesn't work---and it MIGHT be a problem at their end. I wouldn't be surprised. Thanks for trying.

Please keep us posted.

That was very good work. Well Done. Please flag your last post as Solved Problem so others will know.
