This is a weird one I'm not sure how to explain.

Basically, I'll be in one tab (say, Twitter) and click a bookmark on my bookmark bar (say, an entertainment site) and the page will start to load and then stop. The top of the tab then shows the site icon for the site it's on but the name of the site it's trying to load, and everything on the page becomes unclickable until I click that bookmark again.

It also happens when I search bar. I type something into the search bar, click search, and then it seems like it's going to load and then stops. I then have to refresh the page, re-type the search, and try again.

To make matters weirder, if I click off the tab and come back to it, the page is no longer the page I was on. Instead, it's blank.

It's driving me crazy. It's happening on almost everything I click. Help?

Attached Image: In the attached image, you can see my screen shows me on Twitter (everything personal blacked out, including bookmarks), but it's telling me I'm on SiliconEra, a video game news site, a link I clicked from my Bookmark Bar at the top.

I don't think my image attached, so I'll try again.

I forgot Firefox even had a safe mode, it feels like I last used it a decade ago. It seems it was one of my add-ons, not the recent update I ran.

Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control> (Mac=<Command>) <Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Disable a few add-ons, then Restart Firefox.

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All Of them.

If the problem continues, disable some more (restarting FF). Continue until the problem is gone. After, you know what group is causing the issue. Re-enable the last group ONE AT A TIME (restarting FF) until the problem returns.

Once you think you found the problem, disable that and re-enable all the others, then restart again. Let us know who the suspect is, detective.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Options/Preferences -> General: Performance
    remove checkmark: [ ] "Use recommended performance settings"
    "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.
