How can you force thunderbird to recreate password info?
Tools/security/passwords/saved passwords All logins for email are missing. Have no way of getting thunderbird to ask for password. How do you correct this, without starting all over again. I have 5 gigs of emails.

If all saved logins are suddenly missing, then this sounds like you have a program like CCleaner installed on computer. It can erase password files and session files etc and is not helpful in Thunderbird.
If yes, then stop CCleaner from accessing Thunderbird folder.
If you have backup of profile then you could copy paste these files:
- logins.json
- key3.db
- cert8.db
from backup profile name folder into current 'profile name' folder.
Q: Are you being prompted for a password? For pop mail account: Please read section on: 'Doesn't prompt for a password' at this link: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Password_not_remembered_-_Thunderbird
Your 'popstate.dat' file - one per pop account - may be causing the issue. Removing it would only cause a complete redownload of whatever is still in server Inbox.

The computer does not have a cc cleaner on it. However the old hard drive that I transferred the profile from used glary uitlities with absolutely no problems at all.
I copied the files as you mentioned, and made sure Thunderbird was not launched at the time. Absolutely no change. No prompting of password.
I edited the prefs.js file as you mentioned, No prompting of password as well. These suggestions all did not work. Anything else I can try?????
Tools/security/passwords/saved passwords All logins for email are still missing.
re :I edited the prefs.js file as you mentioned,
I did not mention 'prefs.js' :)
Just to make sure we are on the same page...Did you do the following? Make hidden files and folders visible:
In Thunderbird
- 'Help' > 'Troubleshooting Information'
- click on 'Open Folder' button
a new window opens showing contents of profile name folder.
- Exit Thunderbird now - this is important.
- click on 'Mail' folder
- click on pop mail account name folder
- delete 'popstate.dat' file
- close window - top right x
- Start Thunderbird.
